How did Euphony come into being?

“These very short memoirs are dedicated to all those who intuit the arcane function and role of Music in Life, and are an invitation to enter and enjoy this inexhaustible source of beauty and truth. Daniel Levy

Euphony is an ancient art and science that deals with the centrality of Sound and Music, present in all the civilisations that have inspired and stimulated to evolve and give birth to a true Humanism as the legacy and fundamental right of every person.

From a very young age, Music was for me like my daily breath. Listening and a tendency to make others listen, added to a gradual process of inner expansion, allowed the intuitions, feelings and practices of adolescence and youth to become strong and sure roots.

Euphony, as a name and a word full of meanings, presented itself to my inner listening on a special occasion, during a meditation in front of a wonderful Egyptian sculpture of the head of Anubis, with its pricked-up, attentive ears that seemed to hear everything.

The word appeared suddenly and remained anchored in the depths of my feeling, without any further explanation, and without any idea of possible applications, but clearly with the sense that it was full of meaning.

It remained in my heart as if it were a gift, an indication, a suggestion, an important sign, while several years of intense study, and of life and musical experiences elapsed, which I must thank deeply for the many doors they opened for me, for the friendship and daily familiarity with the great composers, to which I added fundamental teachings of universal symbols, psychology, philosophy and spirituality. A close link with the music of all peoples suddenly appeared, beyond any doubt. A seed was slowly developing that would sprout in the future and be useful to many, to essentially remind us of our being Sound, the Sound of Life, and to present to our clouded memories the Art of Listening as an indispensable premise for the growth and wellbeing of humans.

The bursting of the first buds took place in Venice, a privileged space for Music, and a place of confluence of the wisdom of East and West, a few years later, with the resurgence of the word Euphony.

This was the occasion of a wonderful meeting with friends, scholars and experts in life and humanism, and in the midst of this congress, which included participants from different nations, the right name for the convocation came to me, this time with extraordinary force: EUPHONY.

All those present were fascinated by the unusual experience of deep listening that reveals our most hidden being, from the transformation that resonates, to the flow of healing energies that free and cleanse both the mind and the emotions.

I remember as if it were today listening to Bruckner’s Ninth Symphony, made with this beautiful group, and how its movements clearly showed to each person present those unknown landscapes of a great expanse of light on the horizon, as in a vast panoramic view ahead, similar to a path to walk. Only Sound and Music can evoke such a synthesis and present it as a safe and beneficial guide.

Since that day 40 years ago, Euphony has remained alive as an ever-present and abundant Source, offering its infinite nectars. And it has been confirmed as a central key for the development and integral education of the human being.

Thousands of people have been in contact with Euphony since that time, benefiting from the teaching and experiences, through exercises, listening, courses, concerts, special musical recordings, radio broadcasts, books and images.

Euphony continues today, ever more powerful in its educational, ethical, aesthetic and formative aspects, to spread the gems of perennial knowledge and wisdom of the mysteries of sound and music, making them accessible to all.
