Artistic and technical principles of Vincenzo Scaramuzza’s School

Piano Masterclass with Daniel Levy – Ascona (Switzerland)
5 – 6 – 7 – 8 September 2022
Application deadline: 20th July 2022

VINCENZO SCARAMUZZA’s

MUSIC SCHOOL

“All students receive the same principles, from which they make the most of their abilities.”

“I don’t just teach you to play the piano, I teach you for Life.”

Daniel Levy will be conducting a piano masterclass in September 2022 in Ascona, on the Swiss shores of Lake Maggiore, an ideal setting for music.

Levy, one of the most important exponents of the Vincenzo Scaramuzza school –  who has received wide acclaim from the public and international critics for his musicality and technique – has dedicated his life to music, treasuring the teachings he received and manifesting them in concerts as a soloist, in chamber groups, with orchestra and lieder. He has combined pianistic knowledge with his own experience of the principles of Euphony and Listening to help musicians refine and channel their inspirational energy as the breath of Music and transformative act of life.

A new and special department dedicated to the teaching of music is being brought to life at the International Academy of Euphony, the Vincenzo Scaramuzza Piano School. Created by Levy, a pupil of Maestro Scaramuzza, the school is a tribute to the visionary work of the brilliant teacher and musician, who was born in Crotone.

The School is for musicians, piano students, young pianists and all those interested in the ever-present legacy bequeathed by Scaramuzza.

The aim of the School is to transmit both the artistic and aesthetic essence of the musical experience and to teach technical skills to the highest level of excellence, in order to bring students closer to the “Dire la Musique” (let the music speak) which was so important to Chopin, as “singing” was for Scaramuzza. The teachings will transform and go beyond the “play”,jouer”, “spiel” or “tocar”, verbs commonly used to superficially describe making music.

In Daniel Levy’s vision, one of the goals of the new department of the International Academy of Euphony – dedicated to the Vincenzo Scaramuzza Piano School – is to highlight the role of the musician and music in the 21st century, as a necessity for an integral and humanistic Education.

Biography

Daniel Levy

The world-renowned pianist Daniel Levy is one of the most important exponents of the Vincenzo Scaramuzza school.

Critically acclaimed as ‘one of the leading pianists of our time’, Daniel Levy’s ability to build an intimate connection with the audience through the ‘passionate thoughtfulness’ of his playing led Fanfare Magazine’s Ian Lace, in his article ‘A Complete Musician’, to proclaim that ‘if the future of music is in the hands of musicians like Daniel Levy, then, personally, I do not think there is much to worry about.’

Without imposing his own affectations onto the listener, Levy enables his audience to establish a direct relationship with the music, transmitting the unique essence of each piece with playing of the utmost beauty, depth and sensitivity.

Throughout a successful career, Levy has performed in some of the most prestigious live venues in the world, including Royal Festival Hall (London), Teatro La Fenice (Venice), Teatro Colón (Buenos Aires), Conservatoire de Genève (Geneva) and Salle Gaveau (Paris), alongside a number of carefully selected artists who share his creative vision and dedication to the musical craft. Key collaborators have included Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau, the Philharmonia Orchestra, the Prague Symphony Orchestra and the Berlin Philharmonic Quartet.

He continues to inspire audiences and classical music aficionados throughout Europe and America with his series of Recitals, Concerts, Chamber Music, Concert Dialogues and Master-Classes.
